About This Wiki

CoastalClimateWiki.org is a collaborative website established in 2009 by the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute. The purpose for the site is to provide a resource that links climate scientists with the outreach-based Sea Grant Climate Network. Funding for the project is through NOAA’s Climate Program Office’s Sectoral Applications Research Program (NOAA-SARP).

The site is intended to complement Sea Grant climate training materials developed with the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) Cooperative Program for Operational Meteorology, Education and Training (COMET®) program. It is intended to be a continuous repository of current climate information and resources for scientifically sound outreach.

How to participate

This wiki is open to all Sea Grant and NOAA partners involved in climate research, outreach and education. Once registered and approved, you will be free to add, delete and revise resources on the website. Fill out the form at http://coastalclimatewiki.org/register.aspx. You will need to provide your name, e-mail address, username and password. After approval from a website administrator, you will be free to create new wiki entries as well as edit existing content. The power of the website is the collective sum of the input from all participants. We encourage you to edit existing pages, create new pages, upload additional climate resources, comment on existing material and add to the discussion to enhance science-based climate outreach.

New Educational Module

As coastal communities confront intensified storm surges, flooding and a host of other impacts as a result of the Earth’s changing climate, a multimedia self-guided educational module on coastal climate change is now available. The material is a project of the Wisconsin Sea Grant College Program, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research’s (UCAR) COMET® program, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Program Office’s Sectoral Applications Research Program (NOAA-SARP). Users will need to register prior to taking the course, but registration is free and easy.


Sea Grant Climate Network Training Workshop and the North Atlantic Regional Team Climate Literacy Resources

The Sea Grant Climate Network hosted a climate training workshop in Charleston, S.C. on Nov. 8-11, 2009. Videos of many of the plenary presentations listed on the agenda have been captured and are available for viewing on the site. For most presentations, the PowerPoint presentation and related resources are also posted.

The North Atlantic Regional Team hosted a climate literacy workshop in Naragansett, R.I. on April 12-14, 2010. PowerPoints, videos, and additional resources are available. View the list of presentations.
